Make your biodata free

A Hindu biodata has the usual sections: personal details, education, occupation, family, expectations and contact. Many families also want a few extra details, mainly for matching horoscopes (kundli or koshthi). This guide shows where and how to write them.

Opening with "Shree Shree"

Traditionally, a Hindu biodata begins with "Shree Shree" or the name of the family deity at the very top. It's optional. BanglaBiodata's Hindu and Alpona templates include "Shree Shree", and you can turn it off in one click in the "Arrange & settings" step.

Shri and Shrimati before names

It's customary to write "Shri" before the father's name and "Shrimati" before the mother's, for example Shri Pradip Kumar Das and Shrimati Rita Das. The bride's or groom's own name usually doesn't take one.

Details for horoscope matching

Many families match horoscopes before a marriage. These details help:

  • Time of birth: for example, 7:15 am
  • Place of birth: district or city
  • Rashi (moon sign): Mesh (Aries), Vrish (Taurus), Mithun (Gemini) and so on
  • Nakshatra / gana: if known
  • Gotra: for example, Kashyap or Shandilya

Whether to include them is entirely your family's decision. In BanglaBiodata, add each one as its own line with "+ Add a field", with "Gotra" as the label and "Kashyap" as the value.

Sample: Time of birth: 7:15 am · Place of birth: Narail · Rashi: Singha (Leo) · Gotra: Kashyap

Religious practice

After family details, keep it short, for example: "I take part in regular puja; our family is religious." The Hindu templates have a separate section for this, with a choice of how regularly you practise.

On varna and caste

Some families mention varna; many don't. It's a private family matter: add it as an extra field if you want to. Remember that strict conditions in your expectations rule out many good matches before anyone has talked.

What doesn't belong in a biodata

Dowry or any exchange of money has no place in a biodata; giving or taking dowry is a punishable offence in Bangladesh. Never include sensitive details like your National ID number or full address.

Which Hindu template?

  • Hindu: sindoor red and marigold, with floral motifs; familiar and restrained.
  • Alpona: a red header with white alpona lace and a shankha-pola style frame; festive and distinctly Bengali.
